AT the absolute height of Olympic fever many families might be wondering how they can get more physically active themselves.
And Stirling University is hoping it may be able to provide the answer with its 40th anniversary Open Day on Saturday, August 30 when an array of sport and fitness activities is on offer – with a strong emphasis on families getting involved together.
Among taster sessions being offered on the day are canoeing, orienteering, golf/putting, rounders, swimming and tennis yoga, pilates and step.
Dr John Mathers, Senior Teaching Fellow and lecturer in Sports Psychology, said: “We want all of our students and community members to have access to our facilities.
“We modify our equipment and games so that people with all abilities can get a good experience.
A packed programme for the day isn’t all about sports though as visitors can also enjoy guided tours of the campus and the university’s impressive art collection and a series of short talks from an array of lecturers covering history, science, culture and everything in between.
Entertainment also comes in the form of displays from fire and police services, performances from the MacRobert’s youth theatre groups, plant sale, barbecue and helicopter rides over the campus.
Starting at 10am the fun continues all the way through until 4pm.
The university are offering five free helicopter rides on the day to winners of this Observer competition.
To be in with a chance of winning just answer this simple question: Which anniversary is Stirling University currently celebrating?
Send your answer along with a note of your name, address and contact telephone number to Open Day Competition, Stirling Observer, 34 Upper Craigs, Stirling, FK8 2DW.
Winners will be the first five correct entries drawn after the closing date of next Wednesday (August 27).
