THE latest tourist attraction in Dunblane has already had an overhaul – just two days after its installation.
Following tennis ace Andy Murray’s sensational Olympic gold medal win on Sunday over Roger Federer, Royal Mail gave the Dunblane High Street post box a new look – changing it from pillar-box red to a lovely shade of gold.
After the paint job on Monday morning, thousands of people descended on Dunblane to see it, many of them touching it. And that meant that the iconic post box became smudged, with pieces of the gold paint flaking off.
Jennifer Rodger posted on the Observer’s Facebook page: “People couldn’t stay away until the gold paint had dried and now it’s a real mess, sadly.
“It’s all white smudges and fingerprints.
“I live near this postbox and it’s attracting attention.
“It’s ruined. It should have been completely fenced off until the paint had dried. What a shame!”
Yesterday (Thursday) the post box was re-painted by Royal Mail.
