Stirling councillor Neil Benny claims he is the victim of a foul-mouthed internet impersonator.
The Tory elected member for Stirling West said that a fake account has appeared on social networking website Twitter under his name.
Councillor Benny said that for the past few months his genuine
@Neilbenny profile has appeared alongside the spoof one
@BaillieBenny – a reference to Councillor Benny’s role as one of the local authority’s baillies,
Councillor Benny said that recently increasingly offensive messages had been posted using the fake account and added it has since been removed.
He said: “It is truly flattering to be parodied. It may seem a bit bizarre for a local councillor from Stirling to be on the receiving end of treatment usually reserved for global celebrities.
“Don’t worry, my new-found celebrity status won’t be going to my head.”
