Calling all ladies ... registration has now opened for the 2013 Strathcarron Hospice Midnight Tiara Walk on Saturday, May 18.

The event features either a five or ten-mile walk around Stirling, which sets off at - you’ve guessed it - midnight!

The entry fee is just £20 and every participant will receive a special Midnight Walk T-shirt, tiara, breakfast, hot drink, goodie bag and medal.

Each walker will be required to raise a minimum of £30 sponsorship. Participants should be 16 years and over.

The hospice is also is looking for potential volunteers for marshalling duties.

Last year the walk saw more than 1400 ladies pound the pavements of Stirling over a five or 10-mile circuit, raising an incredible £200,000 for the Denny hospice.

Since the first walk in 2009, the event has become known as an ideal opportunity to get together with family, friends and colleagues for an experience to remember.

All the hospice asks in return is that walkers try their hardest to seek sponsorship money from family, friends and colleagues to help raise funds for Strathcarron.

Strathcarron fundraising manager Angela Gillies said: “Many people think we are fully funded by the NHS, but we receive just 38 pence out of every pound we need from the NHS. The rest depends on the generosity of the public. We need to raise more than £65,000 every week to continue providing free care.

“Events like the Midnight Walk are a great way to get involved with Strathcarron fundraising and have fun. Our events raise around £500,000 of much needed income, and the walk played a huge part in that.

“The walk really is a fantastic night and, while we would love for people to raise as much sponsorship as possible, we have kept the minimum sponsorship as modest as possible as we appreciate these are difficult economic times for many people, but that many of them still want to contribute to the hospice.

“Strathcarron is a place which means a great deal to the people in this area, many of whom will have seen for themselves through family and friends just what an incredible place it is. That certainly contributes to the special atmosphere of the walk.”
