Who will pay for the charity tick?

Sir, – I manage Plus, the local charity which was recently awarded a Stirling Provost’s Civic Award. Read

Arcade attractions

Sir, – We were dismayed to read Betty Hogg’s letter “What’s going on at Arcade?” (December 11). Read

Treat staff with respect

Sir, – For many this is always an exciting time but we know it can be frantic trying to get everything ready for the big day. I want to gently remind your readers to remember that shop workers are people as well. Read

More must be done to catch speeders

Sir, – I am pleased to see that our police have managed to catch and prosecute two drivers who were both driving at more than twice the national speed limit. Read

Pubs create no-go area for tourists

Sir, – I regularly conduct parties of family and friends from abroad and England on visits to Stirling Old Town and, in particular, to the environs of Baker Street and the Spittal Street approach to the Castle. Read

Give everyone a fair deal on city centre parking

Sir, – Stirling Council has with great secrecy managed to plan and carry out the destruction of mature trees on the perimeter of Kings Park. Wanton destruction and environmental scarring come to mind, all in the pursuit of motorists and the council's penchant for finding avenues for income generation by stealth. Try to have a mature tree removed from your own property and see how quickly the council reacts. Read

Councillors will face voters’ anger

Sir, – Can we add our shock and dismay at the news about the proposed felling of trees and the installation of parking meters at the Kings Park. A few questions come to mind. Read

Municipal vandals wreck urban gem

Sir, – If your lead report “Council to chop down 20 trees in Kings Park” had been published on April 1 one would have assumed it to be an ill-conceived joke – but this is real and it is a piece of municipal vandalism. Read

Teetotally ignored

Sir, – The Stirling Observer edition of October 8 included a special feature on alcohol awareness. It was backed by no fewer than 14 producers and distributors of alcoholic drink, all of whom have a vested interest in preventing forthcoming public regulation. Among notable absentees was Alcoholics Anonymous. Read

Safety concern at Torbrex

Sir, – There has been no report in the pages of the Stirling Observer about it but last week a girl suffered two broken legs in a road accident near the junction of Polmaise Road and Springwood Avenue in Torbrex. Read

Missing the point on council spying powers

Sir – I read with some concern the article by Kaiya Marjoribanks entitled "Council officers must get permission before spying" (Observer, September 24). It would appear to me that Councillor Neil Benny is seriously misguided over this issue. Read

Samba thanks

Sir, – A vote of thanks to the Stirling Observer for helping local samba band, Beat That, attract new recruits. Read
