Teetotally ignored

Sir, – The Stirling Observer edition of October 8 included a special feature on alcohol awareness. It was backed by no fewer than 14 producers and distributors of alcoholic drink, all of whom have a vested interest in preventing forthcoming public regulation. Among notable absentees was Alcoholics Anonymous.

We were advised to enjoy "at least two alcohol-free days per week". But after two why not three, four, five, six or seven?

What use is an alcohol awareness week that does not even mention the alcohol-free lifestyle? For some this is a matter of choice, taste or principle; for others it is an absolute necessity. Nowadays the teetotaller is often regarded either as a Muslim or a social misfit. Many of us alcohol-free drinkers are neither. Yours, etc.
