Dear Editor – I note with concern the application by McDonalds to build a new outlet in Springkerse on Forthside Way.
I have to ask if this is an appropriate site for a fast food outlet, adjacent to a secondary school. To approve this application would seriously undermine the many efforts to promote healthy eating by the school, Stirling Council and the Scottish Government.
Given that there are two other vacant sites at or near the same roundabout, I have to ask why they have chosen this site.
It must be that they consider schoolchildren an important element in their demographics. Is McDonalds targeting schoolchildren?
I have to point out there are codes of practice relating to marketing to children and existing fast food outlets in the area are very relaxed in their interpretation of these.
