Chance for complete beginners to see through the art of glass

GLASS engraving is the subject of a two day art workshop in the Wee County next month.

Edinburgh College of Art graduate Ian Saville will lead the workshop at Aberdona Gallery for Artisans on Friday and Monday, November 7 and 10.

Awarded the “Best Work in Glass and Architectural Glass” title by the Scottish Glass Society this year, Ian is a highly skilled engraver as well as expert in fusing, stained glass and glass blowing.

Workshop places are limited to eight and participants must be able to attend on both days.

Booking is essential and there will also be a small charge to attend.

Ian said: “This workshop is for complete beginners, no experience of working with glass is required.

“I will be teaching two of the basic engraving techniques, which are dremel and sandblasting, and explaining the other, more complex engraving techniques.

“At first the participants will be experimenting on small test samples so they can see what effects are possible and then they will be able to come up with a design and make it.”
