Music group is making a return visit

AUTHOR Robert Louis Stevenson’s connections with Bridge of Allan will be the focus of a return visit of the Quern music group to the Stirling area next month.

On Friday, November 14 they will give a concert in the new Chalmers Suite in Bridge of Allan Parish Church at 7.30pm to raise funds for the new hall furnishings and for Christian Aid.

Founded in Linlithgow in 1984 by Wallace Lockhart, with the twin objectives of promoting the music and culture of Scotland in a lively and imaginative way and helping organisations with their fundraising efforts, Quern has established its own unique niche in the Scottish cultural scene.

With fiddles, accordions, flute, mandolin, song and storytelling, Quern offers a delightful evening of which the Observer said on their last visit to the area “another marvellous performance – packed the hall to bursting point!”

Quern are widely travelled in Scotland and have also taken part in major events in France, Holland, Germany, Spain and Russia and have made two week tours to both Eastern Australia and Western Canada, playing for Scots societies, Burns and country dance clubs. In a recent three week tour to Kenya, Quern helped to raise funds for a Kenyan hospital.

Their forthcoming concert in Bridge of Allan features their exciting programme on Robert Louis Stevenson, who visited the village many times. The concert will also give patrons an opportunity to enjoy the ambience of the beautiful new eco-friendly hall opened by the Moderator in August.

Tickets, priced £5 and £4 (concessions), which include refreshments, are on sale from the church office or the Strathallan Pharmacy.
