ANOTHER operation targeting bogus workmen has been carried out, this time around the Callander, Aberfoyle and Dunblane areas.
Officers from Central Scotland Police’s Dunblane Sub Area Command worked with the Department of Work and Pensions, Stirling Council Trading Standards and SEPA in a bid to detect and deter bogus workmen on June 25.
Leading the action, Sergeant Roddy Swan said: “The last time we carried out this operation it was in the Balfron area, this time we were in and around the Dunblane, Callander and Aberfoyle areas.
“Bogus workmen target the vulnerable and elderly members of our community and this operation shows we are tackling potential criminality in rural villages.”
During the initiative, 23 people were subjected to checks. Two people are subject of further investigation into suspected benefit fraud and a man will also be the subject of an ongoing investigation by SEPA.
Sergeant Swan added: “Positive feedback was received from a number of local residents in the areas targeted, as well as from bona-fide workmen who were pleased and reassured that such effort was being undertaken.
“This proactive operation will continue throughout the summer months and into the winter.”
