Sandra’s flying high in the Galaxy

STIRLINGSHIRE’S Sandra Lewis is hoping to shine like a star at next month’s Galaxy Pageant finals in England.

Sandra (26), who lives in Sauchieburn, has been chosen as the Miss Stirlingshire representative at the competition that draws entries from across the country.

Next month she will be attending the finals in Cheshire and a national win there would send her on a dream trip of a lifetime to the USA to take part in the Miss Galaxy International Pageant.

There, she would be meeting up with other contestants from all over the world and would be competing in different sections such as fashion and evening-wear.

Sandra, a first-year degree student in media and communication at Forth Valley College, decided to enter the pageant – her very first – after hearing about the competition through an agency.

She put in her application and it wasn’t long until she had some great news – she had been listed as the official Miss Stirlingshire.

Sandra said: “I had joined the agency online and they were updating me on any jobs that were coming up.

"I saw the Galaxy competition and put in an application.

“After a few weeks they got in touch to say that I had qualified. I was really excited as it was really just a try-out.”

There’s more to the competition as well, as contestants are also encouraged to let their sparkling personality shine through and to act as a role model in their own communities.

Sandra has already been looking into volunteer work in the community with youth work being an area that interests her.

Looking ahead, Sandra, originally from Zimbabwe, hopes to work in public relations but may also do some more modelling work if all goes well.

Sandra, who said that she had fallen in love with Scotland since moving here five years ago, is now busy making final preparations for the competition and is looking forward to the UK event which takes place on February 21.
