Laura’s marathon challenge for Yorkhill

SPECIAL inspiration is set to speed a Stirling woman on her way as she prepares to tackle this Sunday’s London Marathon.

Laura Swan is running the marathon in aid of Yorkhill Children’s Hospital, which cared for her nephew before he sadly passed away aged only four years old.

Now, however, she hopes her efforts will be a thank-you to the hospital for its support.

Laura, who works at Prudential in Stirling, said; “My family will be in debt to the hospital for the work it did for him and I want to support them so they can continue to support families like mine.”

So far Laura has raised around £1500 for the cause – but hopes to raise even more if possible.

“Any donations would be so appreciated, and if there are any companies which may want to donate as well that would be great. The money will make a difference to so many kids.

“Everyone is digging deep to help me.”

Marathon running isn’t something which Laura is accustomed to.

“I come from a world where the word ‘running’ is usually only associated with the bath tub, so for me to complete the London Marathon is a scary business.

“On Saturday, however, I must wake up with the courage and determination to complete the 26.2 mile route.

“I have many reasons for taking on this challenge. On a personal level I want to discover more about my determination and what it can achieve.

“However my real passion for this challenge was given to me by a special wee boy who in his tiny life taught me in his own way to follow dreams and never give up the fight but more importantly never to lose the smile.

“That passion drives me every day of my life and I am sure it will get me through this exciting challenge.

“My aim is to run, walk or crawl to that finish line in memory of every child that has faced a situation that they did not deserve and to say thank you to all the medical professionals who fight everyday to make the world a better place.

“I will cross the finish line and at the point my smile appears I will know its the end and it was all worth it!

“Despite all their successes, Yorkhill Children’s Foundation still have huge challenges to meet every year. There are many wards, departments and professionals throughout the hospital who depend on our support.”
