THE stabilisers only came off his bike last month but St Ninians youngster Jacob Bell (right) plans to cycle 14km along the M74 on Sunday.
Accompanied by his dad Graham, the seven-year-old St Mary’s Primary pupil will ride along a new stretch of the motorway in Glasgow for the One In A Million campaign for children in Zimbabwe.
Graham said his son decided to do it after hearing about the appeal’s work at his local Boys’ Brigade.
“He jumped at the chance to do something for the appeal,” he said.
“He only learned how to ride his bike a few weeks ago but we’ve been practising hard since and he’s already cycled the nine-mile route from Callander to Strathyre.
“The new motorway opens to traffic in June but the contractors and Glasgow City Council are letting people on it to raise money for charity on Sunday.”
Jacob set out to raise £250 but donations have already passed £400 and are still rising.
“I can’t believe how much money I’ve raised already,” he said. “I wasn’t sure if I’d even reach the £250 target.
“14km is a long way but I hope I’ll manage it.”
Graham said he and Jacob’s mum Sheena are extremely proud of their son.
