Kate to go extra mile for charity

A BATTLING Bannockburn mum-of-two is aiming to help others like her next month when she does a charity walk.

Kate Griffin is preparing to set off on the 10-mile White Ribbon Walk for Breast Cancer Care.

Observer readers may remember our story from September last year on Kate who started battling breast cancer after finding a lump while on her honeymoon in July 2007. She was given a diagnosis in September that year.

After treatment which ended a year ago Kate took to the catwalk with other breast cancer sufferers to raise funds.

This time around Kate is to be joined by her family for the charity walk which takes place at Scone Palace in Perthshire on June 16. It is the first time the event will have taken place in Scotland.

Kate’s husband Bill will be doing the 20-mile route and she will be joined by her sister Laura Campbell and niece Rachel Peebles.

Vital

Kate told the Observer: “I want to help Breast Cancer Care because it provides important advice and support to those with breast cancer.

“Not everyone has that and so it is vital that there aren’t people who will be missing out.”

Her aim is to raise as much money as possible, something which Bill is also trying to do. He has organised a barbecue for friends to add to the donations.

Kate added: “I have been doing some training for the walk along with my husband and other relatives.

“I am really looking forward to it.”

Kate has set up an online donation page at www.justgiving.com/kategriffin5 which also has a video and pictures taken during her battle with breast cancer.
