Cross country cadets shine in the mud

DUNBLANE air cadets braved the wind, mud and rain to achieve outstanding success in the Annual Inter-Squadron Cross Country Competition held at Livingston on Sunday.

Competing against the weather and cadets from across Edinburgh and South Scotland Wing, 2284 (Dunblane) Sqn ATC won both the O’Hara Memorial Trophy for Best Boys’ Team and also the prestigious Stanley-Whyte Trophy for Best Overall Squadron in the Wing.

Cpl Craig Macdonald won the 15-17 years Race with Sgt David Parry a close second while Cpl Catherine Donald took second place in the Senior Girls’ Race. Cdt Daryll Laird completed the medal-winning line up, taking second place in the under-15s’ race.

All four have been selected to represent the Wing in the Scotland and Northern Ireland Regional Competition in November with Cdt Cameron Clark selected as a reserve for the U15s Team following his sixth place.

Daniel Holden, a civilian instructor and the team’s manager, said: “Winning the Best Overall Squadron is a tremendous achievement for the cadets.

“It reflects the excellent effort and support put in by all the team. They are a credit to themselves and Dunblane Squadron.”
