POPULAR Killearn resident Joan Shand, who died last year, has left a colourful legacy on the village.
Joan, a former vice-president of Killearn Cottagers Horticultural Society, died in March 2008 and bequeathed a sum of money to be used to plant a number of broad-leaved trees around the village.
The society, helped by members of Colourful Killearn and Stirling Council staff, planted more than 20 trees around the village.
And last week they finished the task by planting an acer in the grounds of Killearn’s Abbeyfield house – alongside a commemorative plaque.
Hortricultral secretary Glenda Asquith said: “Joan was a well-known lady in Killearn and after her bequest, we thought it fitting that we should remember her efforts with the plaque.”
