Mugdock's world mix

SINGERS and dancers bringing sights and sounds from all over the world descend on Mugdock Country Park this weekend.

The park south of Strathblane in West Stirlingshire hosts its third annual music festival which kicked off last night (Thursday) with a spot of drama in the form of “Up the Raw”, a story of the Durham mining community in the 19th century combining theatre with both music and song.

Tonight (Friday) evening entertainment comes from Edinburgh-based folk band Bellevue Rendezvous with support from the Cross Border Band.

The entertainment over the weekend itself stretches from noon to 6pm tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday with big names like Michael Marra and Battlefield Band among a colourful line up which also includes African drums, Chinese dance and more.

Festival Director Erne Parkin said: “It’s a great family friendly festival with this year all the acts playing in our all-weather festival marquee in the Victorian Walled Garden – just in case we get bad weather.”

Tickets for Bellevue Rendezvous tonight (Friday) are priced £8 each while those for Michael Marra tomorrow (Saturday) evening are £10.

Tickets for events on Saturday and Sunday are £5 for adults and £3 for ages 6-16 years with younger children admitted free.

Even more entertainment also comes for free with acoustic musicians playing in and around the festival bar and barbecue.
