Get ready to celebrate bravery and dedication of local people

THE third Central FM Local Heroes Awards night takes place tomorrow (Thursday) at Airth Castle Hotel.

Twenty nominees in 10 categories will be the guests of honour at the glitzy awards ceremony.

And one of them will follow in the footsteps of 2007 winner John O’Hare from Alva and last year’s trophy recipient John Buist from Bainsford.

Among those shortlisted are Avril Berrie of Dunblane, whose bravery was nominated by Leicester man Bharat Patel to whom she donated a kidney; Gargunnock 14 year-old Cian McKenzie, nominated in the child of achievement category for acting as “guardian angel” to his mum after his dad had a serious brain injury; Special Olympian Marie McAulay from St Ninians, nominated in the sport category and Alva Academy’s Ian Ash, nominated in teacher of the year section.

Winners will be featured in next Wednesday’s Observer.
