Prize guys at UK games expo

A BOARD game invented by local entrepreneurs Richard McLuckie and Stuart McKenzie Walker has won Best Party Game at the UK Games Expo in Birmingham.

Liar Liar is the first game produced by their company – Pants on Fire Games – and is, as the name suggests, all about lying. The idea is to lie your way to victory, making up answers and faking “facts”.

“To have been awarded this prize is unbelievable,” said Richard, who whilst serving with the Argylls was based at Stirling Castle. “We went along to the event really just to meet people and get some feedback. And to add to our success, our other game Eurobabble, was the runner-up. Eurobabble is a game of gentle self-mockery pocking fun at our European cousins, and the less you understand, the funnier it is.”

The prize is a great reward for Richard and Stuart, originally from Tillicoultry, having spent a long winter researching and writing questions, with the initial idea formed some five years ago.

Demand for the games was clear from the very start of the event as both customers and fellow exhibitors formed a queue before the show had even started.

Richard Denning, the exhibition director, described the winning game as “a terrifically good all round party game.”

Since the exhibition, interest in both games has come from far and wide. Prestigious retailers such as Waterstone’s, Hamley’s and John Lewis are looking to stock them and a French company have started negotiations to translate and distribute them in Europe.
