Tents plan for Thornhill craft centre

LAND near Thornhill may be used to site yurts – circular tents.

Stirling Council planners are recommending conditional approval of an application by Catherine Sankey for the site at West Moss Side.

She wants to site three yurts, an eco-loo, covered walkway, kitchen and facilities in existing storage spaces on the ground floor of a building, plus landscaping and hedging.

One objection was submitted citing concerns that the local market for “novelty” holiday accommodation is already well served.

The planners said, however: “There is an established business within the site.

“It is considered the accommodation will operate as a complimentary component to this business, providing temporary residence for visitors attending the craft centre as well as attracting visitors seeking alternative holiday accommodation.

“In addition, it is the officers view that the site is located within a sustainable, accessible location. It is also considered the proposals will not detract from the rural character of the environment.

The proposals, therefore, accord with current policy and guidance and as such the application is acceptable on these grounds.”
