A unique chance to meet your favourite character from history at Stirling Castle

SEVERAL icons of Scotland’s royal past will be entertaining and educating visitors to Stirling Castle this weekend.

As part of Historic Scotland’s “Return of The Legends” event tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday those set to put in an appearance include Mary Queen of Scots, Robert the Bruce, William Wallace and Bonnie Prince Charlie.

From noon to 4pm on both days the castle’s Great Hall will be home to Jacobites Bonnie Dundee and Rob Roy MacGregor as well as Prince Charlie.

There will also be a chance to wander through a battle camp and see how much William Wallace’s “Braveheart” portrayal differs from his more historically accurate image.

The turbulent life of Robert the Bruce will also be revealed and Mary, Queen of Scots will hold court in the Chapel Royal, entertained by dancers.

Events manager Nick Finnigan said: “Following the success of our ‘Return of The Legends’ event last year, we’ve added more to the programme for visitors of all ages to see and do.

“Experience tells us that visitors love getting up close and personal to some of their all time favourite legends – William Wallace being one of the most popular.

“There will be plenty of entertainment with music, dancing, shows, presentations, and audience participation too, so it promises to be a real legendary weekend.”

Admission to the weekend events is included in the normal castle admission price.

However Historic Scotland are also offering the chance for one family to attend for free in a special prize draw.
