KILLEARN is set to come to life over the next few days with a week’s celebration of community spirit and enterprise – including the village’s first gala day in seven years.
The Killearn Hoolie week will launch with the Killearn Fun Run 10k and 5k races on Sunday – plus a 2k jog for children – from the village centre out along the water pipeline towards Strathblane.
Following that, there will be a series of associated events run by community organisations including: a treasure hunt on Sunday; a bridge event on Monday; tennis tournament on Wednesday; a street football challenge on Friday; and activities at Brownies, cubs, schools and nurseries.
Saturday, June 12, will see the main event – the first Killearn Gala Day for seven years.
A procession through the village will be led by Strathendrick Classic Car Club, Strathendrick Pipe Band and the Gala King and Queen.
From noon until 4pm, a packed programme of entertainment events and activities will be available on The Glebe including: cooking demonstrations by Tom Lewis of Monachyle Mhor; a falconry demonstration; Wee Green Market; tug of war; stalls; tombolas; bouncy castle; Highland Dancing; a performance by Get Reel; an “off-road bike display”; face painting; beat the goalie; nail bar; bottle stall; retro sweets; art tent; Beer Tent; Top Gear challenge; softplay area for under 5s; hook-a-duck; Play Your Cards Right; wellie throwing; puppet making and plants & vegetables.
There truly will be something for everyone.
Festivities will be brought to a close that evening with “The Final Fling” – a village dance in the marquee on The Glebe featuring Catherine O'Halloran, The Glebe Trotters and celtic rockers Hell for Leather. A licensed bar, supper and a silent auction will complement the entertainment of this fantastic finale.
