Weatherman Sean chief at Bridge of Allan Games

BRIDGE of Allan Highland Games is forecasting fun for all the family this year come rain or shine with TV weatherman Sean Batty as chieftain.

The Strathallan meeting will celebrate its 159th year on Sunday, August 8, with another packed programme of competitions, entertainment and activities.

And organisers are hoping the STV weatherman will bring in a front of good luck and the sunshine with him.

Widely regarded as one of Scotland’s premier Highland games and attracting crowds of between 8,000 and 12,000 every year, the games offer a full programme of events from 10am including many championships.

Visitors can enjoy heavyweight contests, caber-tossing, athletics, cycling and wrestling as well as performances by some 200 Highland dancers and around 1600 pipers.

Coming as it does shortly before the World Pipe Band Championship, Bridge of Allan attracts pipe bands from all over the world who relish the opportunity to “fine tune” their performance in time for the Championships; ensuring a fabulous finale for spectators.

There will also be an abundance of trade stands ranging from interesting bric-a-brac to highland outfitters, food and drink concessions and a large-scale funfair.

The funfair runs from the Wednesday, August 4, through to the games day.

The 159th Bridge of Allan Highland Games are sponsored by Graham’s, the family dairy.
