Man shot in 'motiveless attack'

A masked gunman shot a "well-respected family man" outside his home in a leafy suburban street, police have said.

The victim was blasted with a shotgun as he returned to his home in a quiet residential area of Edinburgh.

Lothian and Borders Police said the 39-year-old man, who had been walking his dog, may have been the victim of mistaken identity. The attacker, who was wearing a ski mask or balaclava, fired at least two shots, with one of them hitting the man.
