Pollution-reduction target agreed

A higher target for cutting greenhouse gas emissions has been unanimously backed by MSPs.

Politicians from all parties agreed that legislation to tackle climate change should set a target of reducing emissions by 42% by 2020 - up from 34%.

But a Green Party attempt to include a 90% target for 2050 - instead of 80% - was overwhelmingly rejected.
