ScotRail figures may be probed

Audit watchdogs have been urged to investigate transport giant ScotRail over a seven million shortfall in its passenger numbers.

Hugh Henry, convener of Holyrood's Public Audit Committee, wants to know if the shortfall affected the decision to extend the franchise for the firm to run rail services until 2014.

But ScotRail said that the discrepancy had no impact on its revenue and that passenger numbers continued to grow.
