High-speed rail link proposed

A high-speed rail link between central Scotland and London has been added to a list of major projects deemed to be in the national interest, it has been announced.

Also included in the list is a proposed expansion of woodlands in central Scotland, from Ayrshire and Inverclyde in the west to Fife and East Lothian on the West.

Both are included in the 14 infrastructure schemes listed in the final "national planning framework." The document is a list of projects regarded as in the national interest from a planning viewpoint.
