Queen to visit Scottish Parliament

The Queen will pay a visit to her neighbours to mark 10 years of devolution in Scotland.

She will visit the Scottish Parliament, whose proceedings she formally inaugurated on July 1, 1999. The Parliament that she will address is across the road from the Palace of Holyroodhouse, where the royal family stay while on official duties in Edinburgh.

In contrast to the opening ceremony and celebrations which lasted most of the day 10 years ago, Wednesday's events will be short. MSPs will hear speeches from Presiding Officer Alex Fergusson, the Queen, and First Minister Alex Salmond.
