New snow-proof equipment for trains

A train operator says heated "skirts" and other de-icing equipment it used on carriages to remove ice and snow during the severe weather had proved a success.

ScotRail has already described its use of the heated skirts for trains as a first for the industry in the UK.

Trials were carried out with the method - which sees powerful pumps used to blow hot air under the skirts to warm up the underside of a train - earlier this month.
