NHS IVF treatment 'lottery' slammed

An MSP has hit out at the Scottish Government over the number of private patients receiving IVF treatment on the NHS.

Labour's health spokeswoman Jackie Baillie said figures obtained using the Freedom of Information act showed two health boards - NHS Lothian and NHS Tayside - had brought in £1.5 million from private IVF patients in the last three years.

Statistics showed 78% of NHS Lothian patients and 43% of Tayside patients were self-funders, in the period 2007/08 to 2009/10.
