Plea over threatened Fife RAF base

Former Liberal Democrat leader Sir Menzies Campbell has made an impassioned plea to ministers in a bid to save an RAF base in his Fife constituency.

Sir Menzies said the case for retaining RAF Leuchars was "overwhelming", telling the Government: "If it's not broke then don't fix it."

Armed Forces Minister Nick Harvey, also a Lib Dem, said a decision on which bases the RAF ceased to use would be taken by the summer.
