Boy hurt in dog attack near school

A seven-year-old boy needed surgery after he was attacked by a dog near his primary school.

The Staffordshire bull terrier, which was on a lead, attacked primary three pupil Jude Keir on a footpath outside Woodhead primary school in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, as the child was leaving school on Tuesday afternoon.

School staff called an ambulance and his mother, who had been waiting for the youngster, travelled to hospital with him. Jude was initially taken to Wishaw General Hospital and treated for facial and eye injuries, then transferred to Yorkhill Hospital in Glasgow for surgery.
