Jim puts pupils in the picture

YOUNGSTERS at Kippen Primary School were given an insight into the photographic side of the Stirling Observer on Monday.

Jim and Gillian Mailer of Whyler Photos, who have worked as official Stirling Observer photographers for almost 50 years, spoke to the P6-7 children about their job.

Jim said: “The children will be taking their own class photos to raise funds for the school and we gave them hints and tips on how to do this and showed them examples of photographs.”

He also showed photos of famous people he had taken and spoke about different types of photography from press work for the Stirling Observer to studio work and weddings.

“We also looked at how photography had changed and took along an old camera and negatives to show the children,” said Jim.

“They were all very interested and we had a very lively questions and answers session at the end.”
