STIRLING Provost Fergus Wood made the short journey from his Kinlochard farm last week for the official opening of Aberfoyle Primary School’s new Forthview Building.
The provost helped celebrate the opening of the building which provides Aberfoyle Primary with bright, modern, flexible learning and teaching space.
Headteacher Maxine Barwick said the new building will make a huge difference to the school and all the children using it really enjoy learning in it.
The pupils and staff were asked to come up with a name for their new building and after brainstorming sessions decided to call it Forthview. P7 pupils Megan Patrick and Michael O’Connell (both 11) who were involved, explained that the decision to call it Forthview was simple as the new building has great views of the River Forth, only a short distance away.
The carefully designed building includes a nursery classroom as well as a new primary classroom, currently being used for a P1/2 class, and provides a permanent replacement to the old hut that had reached the end of its useful life.
The new building was constructed at a cost of £500,000, by Ogilvie Construction and has been open since October 2008.
As well as teaching spaces, the building also provides associated storage, cloakrooms and toilet facilities as well as access for the disabled.
Externally, the project provides dedicated play space for the nursery class that will continue to be developed with direct input from the children.
