SCHOOLS WIN RACE CASH
PUPILS at Balfron Primary and Balfron High School received an early summer holiday present from the Balfron 10k road race.
Almost 600 runners took part in the village’s third annual 10K last month and raised more than £7500, which is split between the two local schools.
Primary headteacher Ann McIntosh said: “We are thrilled for the children to benefit from this community event. It reinforces our commitment to a healthy, active lifestyle.”
Stuart MacKay, principal PE teacher at Balfron High, added: “This is a fantastic sum of money that the Balfron 10K is donating to both schools and it is very much appreciated.”
The primary school plans to use the money to employ a dance exercise tutor, while the high school needs new kit for several of its sports teams.
Race director Colin Mendham thanked the event’s main sponsors, the Co-operative, plus “the runners, spectators, and army of volunteers who gave up their time to ensure that Balfron hosts a very prestigious and successful 10K.”
