Pupils learn to design with nature

BRAEHEAD Primary School recently opened their early years garden, which was funded by a grant awarded to the school by the Royal Bank of Scotland.

The Supergrounds Awards for primary schools programme is helping hundreds of thousands of children to develop an interest in the natural world, in the hope that their experiences in developing their school grounds will encourage them to value the environment and care for it.

Mairi Breen, Headteacher said: “We are very grateful to Royal Bank of Scotland Supergrounds scheme for financing our new early years garden.

“We are also grateful to Dianne McNaughton, an employee of RBS and a parent of children at our school, for nominating us.

“The design of the garden was decided by the pupils and they have assisted in organising the structure and planting. The garden is a great resource and will be used to enhance the children’s learning, including our Nursery to primary one transition.”
