They’re the talk of the town

STIRLING’S talking newspaper for the blind and visually impaired saw some of its most stalwart supporters honoured recently.

Long service certificates were presented at the organisation’s annual dinner in Stirling’s Park Lodge Hotel, by Ruby Timberlake (93) — Rocktalk’s longest registered listener of 25 years.

Certificates went to Ida Wilson, Alistair Scolley and Les Turner for 10 years’ service and to chairman Ella Kennedy, Violet Sinclair and Frank Burr for 20 years’ service.

Annette Anderson received her certificate for 25 years’ service.

A special award was made to Alex Miller (91), who is visually impaired, on his retiral as recording technician, although he continues as a volunteer in other capacities.

In paying tribute to the award winners, Mrs Kennedy also recognised the depth of commitment and enthusiam in all of the 48 volunteer members of Rocktalk.

Rocktalk, a registered charity in Scotland, is an award winning talking newspaper published weekly.

It brings together edited highlights of the Stirling Observer to more than 180 listeners in the Stirling area free of charge, keeping them in touch with local events.

A monthly audio magazine is also published with items of local and general interest for the blind and visually impaired.

Anyone interested in joining the Rocktalk volunteer force either as a reader or technician should contact the secretary Paul Reed on (01786) 462844 for more information.
