AFTER a hectic summer of trials and pre-season friendlies, Stirling Albion’s youth teams kicked off their season recently.
At under 17 level, Albion started with a 4-1 win at Stranraer thanks to a hat-trick by Andy Hunter and a penalty from Garry Currie.
The good start to the season was marred, however, when Danny Ashe broke his leg and everyone at the club wishes him a speedy recovery.
On Sunday, they made a number of chances in the first half but failed to take any of them – and Dundee punished them by scoring three in the second half. Currie scored a consolation for Stirling.
The Under 19 team have attracted a few new recuits and are still finalising their final player pool. Schoolboy Under 18 internationalists Mark Miller and Johnathan Boyle have joined the club and a series of friendly games have helped the preparations for the new season. Their first Youth Division match away to Cowdenbeath resulted in a 3-1 win with two goals by Craig Young and a Johnny Boyle penalty.
On Sunday they made it two wins out of two against Partick Thistle. First team keeper Scott Christie deputised in goal for the injured Daniel Cawley and in a tough encounter, it was Stevie McIntosh who netted the only goal of the game.
