THERE were three medals for Central AC at the Scottish combined events championships at Pitreavie at the weekend.
Calum Brown took silver in the senior men's decathlon. The conditions were difficult on the first day, with rain and a strong headwind, but Calum set new PBs in the shot (11.17m) and high jump (1.90m) before finishing the day in second place overall.
On the second day he pulled to within 200 points of the lead but was unable to close the gap in the final 1500m. He took silver with a personal best score of 5844 points and will be aiming for the 6000 mark in Hexham next weekend.
In the U16 boys’ pentathlon Tom Chandler from Balfron was looking for revenge on Bruce Sorbie of Aberdeen, who beat him at the Scottish schools pentathlon three weeks earlier.
Personal bests in the high jump (1.67m) and long jump (5.72m) closed the gap to 18 points, which translated to 1.2 seconds in the final 800m event.
On the home straight Tom pulled away to win in 2:19.09 but Bruce finished only 0.7s behind and hung on to his overall lead. Tom took silver with 2502 points.
Caitlin Edgar of Crieff took bronze in the U16 girls’ pentathlon in a PB score of 2621 points.
In the U14 girls’ pentathlon the Dollar trio of Bevhan Trevis, Erin Stevens and Jenny Walls tried combined events for the first time.
Bevhan, a national medallist in throws, finished fifth with 2268, Erin ended on 1371 points and Jenny 1409.
