STIRLING County opened the 2009 cricket season on Saturday with a friendly win over West Lothian at New Williamfield.
The club’s new overseas amateur, 20 year-old Tim Yeadon, outlined his cricketing credentials by scoring 52 then following it up with two wickets.
County batted first on a bright but breezy day and Gavin Anderson and James Millar added 88 for the first wicket before the former was dismissed for 36. Millar retired soon after having made exactly 50.
Yeadon took centre stage thereafter and helped Stirling to 173 for seven off 40 overs.
In reply, West Lothian were always behind the clock despite a hard-hitting 49 from Mark Dixon. Yeadon captured two wickets for 17 while another newcomer Pirin Reitze took two for 44 and West Lothian ended on 166 for eight.
Sunday’s intended friendly against Weirs was cancelled because the Glasgow outfit couldn’t raise a team.
This Saturday, County meet Carlton at home in a friendly while the 2nds XI have their first outing of the season at home to Clackmannanshire.
Practice takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm and all new members are welcome.
