ON SUNDAY six members of Bannockburn Bowmen competed in the Clyde Arrows York /Hereford Rose tournament in Milngavie.
Five new Scottish records were claimed.
Brenda Williams of Alva claimed the Scottish record for the Hereford round for ladies’ barebow and won the tournament gold medal for ladies’ barebow.
Other members celebrating at the end of the day were George Blyth of Clackmannan (gents’ recurve bronze, York round), and Connor Thomson (Cambus), who won gold in the JBU14 recurve category. Connor was competing in his first Bristol III round and also claimed his white rose badge with a score of 866.
Two more events in the club’s 25th anniversary celebrations also took place at the weekend.
On Friday evening an open single clout was held, with distances of 180 yards, 140 yards and 120 yards being shot into a strong headwind. David Tough from the Ancient Society of Kilwinning Archers won the gents’ recurve category, with Chi Kong Cham (Bannockburn) winning the gents’ compound category and Alistair McIntosh of Giffnock Archers coming first in the gents’ traditional category.
In the ladies Shonagh Giles (Bannockburn) won the recurve section and Emma Rigby (Bannockburn) won the barebow.
Connor Thomson (Bannockburn), shooting an age group higher than normal, won the juniors section. Tim Giles claimed the prize for most clouts and John Fell won the worst white.
George Matthews was field captain.
Saturday saw the Bannockburn Masters take place. The local round consisted of nine targets shot twice in rotation at three distances, each with three different size faces. The day was captained by George Blyth.
Medal and trophy winners were: Dave Scobie (GR), Patricia Malone (LR), Brenda Williams (LBB), Connor Thomson (JBU14) and Douglas Blyth (JBU18). Douglas also won the trophy for the highest scoring junior.
At the recent Penicuik FITA Tim Giles claimed both his 1000 FITA star badge and his black penny badge, while Dave Scobie set a new PB for the round.
