MORE than 500 youngsters took part in the Clackmannanshire athletics championships at Grangemouth Stadium.
St John’s Lewis Michie set a new record in the 200m with a time of 28.88s and Tillicoultry’s Morgan Thompson raised the benchmark to 2.53m in the long jump.
Alva triumphed in the race for the schools title, followed by Tillicoultry and St John’s in claiming a position on the podium. Pupils from Fishcross got their hands on the prize for smaller schools.
Next year’s event will be held on a new track at Lornshill Academy.
Clacks councillor Kenny Earle said: “The children’s confidence and skills have increased thanks to the efforts of staff in the schools and we had many pupils in 400 and 800m events, something which has proved difficult in the past.”
Medals and trophies were presented by Councillor Earle and Lesley Robertson, the council’s acting head of education.
