THE last of the season’s regional masters tournaments will take place at Bridge of Allan Sports Club this weekend.
More than 100 competitors will take part in age groups from over-35 to over-80.
The club were the first in Scotland to extend the age groups to over-75 five years ago and now it looks as though they will be the first in the UK to hold a competition for over-80s.
The GB Vets will have an over-80s in April and the World Championships at Birmingham in July will also hold their first over-80s.
There is a very large entry for the local tournament and the competitors come from far and wide. They include former world champion Pauline Douglas, who comes from South Africa each year to play in the tournament.
Tournament director Walter McAllister announced the largest prize fund of any similar tournament in Scotland. The main sponsor this year is SKN Electrical.
The tournament starts on Friday and lasts all weekend, with all the finals on Sunday.
