Stirling Swimming took 10 athletes to Cumbernauld last weekend for the west district junior age group short course championships.
Vincent Jozajtis (13) collected throughout medals over the weekend and finished as the club’s top points scorer.
He swam a fantastic 200m breaststroke to win silver, improving his personal best by an impressive 12 seconds to clock 2.46.76. He then stormed his way to bronze in the 400m freestyle with a five-second PB of 4.34.24.
Vincent also took fifth place in the 1500m freestyle on 18.40.70 – with a massive 60 second PB – fifth place in the 100m breaststroke final with a PB of 1.18.70 and fifth place in the 200m freestyle with a PB of 2.11.92.
In the 200m individual medley, Vincent swam a six second PB of 2.38.54 but just missed out on a place in the final, finishing in seventh place.
Sam Leckie had a successful weekend competing in the 10/11-year-old boys’ section, taking four medals from as many events. He claimed bronze in the final of the 100m backstroke, shaving three seconds off his PB to finish on 1.20.20. Sam also finished fifth in the final of the 200m IM with a PB of 3.00.13, fifth in the 200m backstroke on 2.56.71 and sixth in the 200m freestyle with a three-second PB of 2.40.20.
In the 10/11-year-old girls category, Amy Malone raced her way to four medals and PBs in all six of her events.
She swam solidly to take fifth place in both the 100m backstroke and 200m backstroke, with times of 1.21.87 and 2.52.72 respectively.
In the 200m IM she swam a four-second PB to qualify for the final on 2.56.76, going on to take sixth place in that final.
Amy also claimed sixth place in the 200m breaststroke and, after a brave swim in the 800m freestyle, finished just outside of the medals in seventh place – with an eight-second PB of 11.29.17.
Rory Duncan, Harry Gray, Dan Hesp, Rebecca Matthewson, Luke McGregor, Helen Mitchell and Anna Pollock all competed in the championship for the first time.
Rebecca just missed out on a place in the final of the 12-year-old girls 200m IM, as did Luke in the 12-year-old boys’ 100m breaststroke.
Anna Pollock finished seventh in the 13-year-old girls’ 200m butterfly.
