Stirling gain promotion

STIRLING’S indoor bowlers booked themselves a place in the Scottish League’s first division last Saturday following a hard-earned ten-shot victory over Abbeyview.

Needing to defeat the table-topping Fifers in this final second division match of the season, Stirling survived a severe test to emerge ten-shot winners, although with just one victorious rink.

Eleven shots ahead after the opening five ends, Stirling were hauled back by the halfway stage when Abbeyview led 31-29. The next period saw the advantage swing both ways but by around the 17 end mark a determined Stirling had managed to open up 12-shot lead and this was to prove sufficient as the homesters held on for victory.

Leading the charge for Stirling were Ray Duncan, David Stewart, Stuart Dalrymple and skip Danny McCormick who produced a magnificent display in recovering from 4-10 down to finish 25-10 winners over P Brown.

Elsewhere, Jim Flannagan’s four lost 18-19 to Stuart Pagan; Jason William’s four lost 20-21 to D Lawson, while Bryan Stillie and company went down 17-18 to R McFarlane. Totals: Stirling 80, Abbeyview 70.
