Taking to the greens in Portugal

A PARTY of local bowlers have recently returned from a three-match trip to Portugal.

In their opening match at Vilamoura the highest up rink of the day comprised Andy Kaney, Liz Kaney, Neil Lafferty (all Borestone) skipped by Jim McDonald (Bannockburn).

In their second encounter, the tourists played an ex-pats’ team at Santo Antonio BC on the outskirts of Alvor. The highest up rink of the day was Ted (Santo Antonio), Carol Glen (Bannockburn), Andy Kaney (Borestone) and Jim McDonald (Bannockburn).

The final match was against players from Plymouth with the tourists running out eventual winners. The highest up rink of the day was the Borestone trio of Andy (his third of the week), Liz and Neil, skipped by Bill Hardie (Dunblane).

A special mention to Borestone's Matt Curry who at 85 years is still showing the youngsters how to do it. Matt came on as sub after 12 ends when his rink were 17-4 down. Matt’s team ran out eventual 23-21 winners

In addition to the matches there was a highest-up up rink competition which was won by Peter Marshall (Causewayhead), Matt Curry (Borestone), Willie Allison (Riverside) and Jim McDonald (Bannockburn).

A quiz night was also held with the winners being the Borestone team of Liz, Andy, Francis and Neil.

Many thanks for the sponsorship of prizes from Robert Ferguson of the Wallace Arms, Causewayhead. Thanks also to the Tartan Arms, Bannockburn who donated prizes.
