STIRLING Bowling Club will represent Stirlingshire in the forthcoming national finals of the SBA Mixed Pairs championships.
In last Wednesday’s inter-district final at Grangemouth’s Zetland green, Gail Simpson and Richard Letford defeated Hugh and Roberta Hutchieson (Adrian) 19-12.
Earlier in the week the Stirling pair saw off the challenge from Bannockburn’s Margaret Jenkins and Drew Laird in the District Nine final at Bridge of Allan green.
Gail and Richard now progress to the national finals’ stage (last 16) at the Ralston greens, Paisley, on August 22 and 23.
DOUNE CASTLE PRO-AM
WINNERS of last weekend’s Pro-Am competition at Doune Castle green were Danny Ferguson (Dollar) and Kris Storf (Patons), while runners up were John Booth and Lewis Robertson (Doune Castle).
Losing out in the semi-finals were Brian McLaughlin and Dougie Kerr (Borestone) along with Danny McCormick (Polmaise) and Colin Drummond (Menstrie).
CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS
THE semi-finals of the Champion of Champions contest goes ahead tonight (Wednesday) at Cambusbarron green, at 7pm.
Steve Whitton (Cambusbarron) plays Willie Harrower (Borestone), while Sandy Deans (Polmaise) takes on Dunblane's Steven Eddie.
The final will be played on Friday. The popular event is once again being sponsored by Stuart Clubb.
NEWINGTON HOUSE TROPHY
DENNY BC with eight points and 52 shots have won the Newington House Trophy. Runners up were Riverside BC with eight points plus 29.
SENIOR PAIRS
WINNERS of the recent Cambusbarron senior pairs competition were Brem Morrison and Ian Kirkpatrick (Causewayhead). Runners up were Peter Doyle (Causewayhead) and Tom McGrellish (Banton).
Losing semi-finalists were Jim Blevins (Causewayhead) and Willie Kirkwood (Polmaise) along with John and Teresa Bisset (Cambusbarron).
CAUSEWAYHEAD
THE ladies open pairs competition at Causewayhead green was won by Seona Black and May Alexander (Bonnybridge), while runners up were Pat Johnston and Alison Bradford (Zetland)
HAMILTON TROPHY
WEST Lothian won last Sunday’s final of the Hamilton Trophy with a 119-114 victory over rivals East Lothian at the Mount Vernon green.
POLMAISE TOP SIX
THE last of the quarter finals were played at Polmaise green, on Monday when Polmaise 2 defeated Grangemouth and Polmaise 3 defeated Borestone.
The semi-finals, Dunblane v Cambusbarron and Polmaise 2 v Polmaise 3, will be played on Sunday August 16 at 11am. The final and third and fourth place play will be played at 2p.m.
The event is sponsored by McCallum Ceilings.
BRIDGE OF ALLAN v STENHOUSEMUIR
THE annual match between these clubs was played last Saturday at Bridge of Allan green. Scores were: W Guy 10, T Gow 8; I Anderson 15, P Jackson 8; A Forrest 9, R Kemp 9; I Wright 14, D Kirk 5. Totals: Bridge of Allan 48, Stenhousemuir 30.
