County titles are up for grabs at Stirling

THE Stirling green is Saturday's venue for the eagerly awaited finals of the Stirling County Association championships.

In the singles contest Stenhousemuir's Ian McNair lines up against Carron's Gary Rowan, while in the junior singles, Gareth Crosbie (Callendar MW) takes on Slamannan’s Grant Imrie.

The two-bowl pairs final will be between Bridge of Allan's Richard Guy and Billy Guy and Camelon's Giles McCafferty and Jim Rowan. In the pairs it will be Denny's David Taylor and Darren Couper who will play Causewayhead's Graham Walker and Jason Williams.

Causewayhead triple Frank Wynn, Ian Ferrier and Brem Morrison take on Denny's Graham Dawson, John Grant and Stuart Hogg.

In the fours it will be Burnhead's Robert Laurie, George Herriot, William Gray and Andrew Thomson who line up against Denny's Jamie Grant, Tom Gardiner, Ian Todd and Tom Cochrane)

The senior fours contest sees Polmaise players Jim Walker, William Kirkwood, Jim Blevins and John Binnie) take on Falkirk's Jim Telfer, Hugh Johnston, Ronnie Mayes and Ian McKay).

The action starts at 2pm.

TOP FIFTEEN

POLMAISE BC won the Top Fifteen title on Sunday with victory over Spittalmyre at the Riverside green.

Junior singles - C Henderson 21, G Malcomson 17; singles - D Stewart 19, I. Bone 21.

Pairs - S McFarlane and F Gray 8, D McEwan and P Black 24; triples - F Weston, H Robertson and C Robertson 4, J Brown, D McEwan and D Logie 19.

Fours - K Kiakowski, M Richardson, H Houston and G Giannandrea 15, R McLeod, K Paterson, J Johnston and S Deans 15.

Senior fours - A Holroyd, H Lewis, R Whitfield and J Phimister 15, J Walker, P Smith, J Blevins and J Binnie 11.

Totals: Spittalmyre five plus 82, Polmaise seven plus 107.

The City of Stirling Top Fifteen Group thank Riverside BC, markers and members for staging the final. Thanks also to umpires John Stout and Alex Mason.

TOP SIX

THE Polmaise Top Six semi-finals sponsored by McCallum Ceilings will be held on Sunday, August 16. The semi-finals start at 11am followed by final and 3rd/4th play-off at 2pm

NATIONAL SUCCESS

THREE Denny bowlers were celebrating last weekend following their success in the SWBA National two-bowl triples championships at Bainfield.

Betty Stirling, Val Sneddon and Karen Dawson took the Scottish title with a final victory over Keith BC.

REID TROPHY

POLMAISE BC with eight points and 25 shots are the winners of the Reid Trophy. Runners up are Cambusbarron with eight plus 13.

BRIDGE OF ALLAN OPEN PAIRS

WINNERS of last Sunday’s open pairs were Terry Reilly and Richard Guy (Bridge of Allan), while runners up were Craig Green and Jim Liddell (Cambusbarron).

Losing semi-finalists were Kevan Frogley (Borestone) and Billy Guy (Bridge of Allan) along with Mark Robertson and David Reilly (Bridge of Allan).

The event was sponsored by SRC Stirling Roofing.

CAMBUSBARRON v KILSYTH

LAST Saturday's match at Cambusbarron green resulted in victory for the hosts by seven shots.

Scores were: J Ferguson 24, C Whyte 12; W Brown 18, A Barrowman 12; D Ross 14, P Black 19; C Green 12, I Campbell 16; M Graham 12, D Proven 14; J Bisset 16, W Beveridge 16. Totals: Cambusbarron 96, Kilsyth 89.

CAMBUS v STIRLING

SCORES from last Saturday's match at Cambus were: R McIntosh 13, H Letford 14; J Syme 11, R Letford 28; J Nimmo 18, J Miller 22; D Cairns 16, T Hood 12. Totals: Cambus 58, Stirling 76.

ALLOA CO-OP v COWIE

LAST Saturday's friendly match resulted in victory for Cowie by 22 shots. Scores: R Innes 12, M Callaghan 20; R Brown 14, J Gairns sen 20; J Keir 9, W Glen 17. Totals: Alloa Co-op 35, Cowie 17.

The Cowie Club announces that the Redlands Pairs competition will now be played on Sunday, September 13. It was originally scheduled for September 6.

CALLANDER vAIRTHREY SPA

THE annual match between these clubs was played on Thursday of last week at the Callander green. Scores were: W Goodwin 18, I Watt 8; W Farrimond 7, J Stout 14; J Thomson 16, M Graham 13. Totals: Callander 41, Airthrey Spa 35.

CAUSEWAYHEAD BC

IN last Saturday's match at Causewayhead green, Bridge of Allan bowlers won by 58 shots to 39.

Winner of the senior singles competition was M Bridge and the runner up was J Somerville. Losing semi-finalists were H Watson and B Morrison.

Causewayhead ladies won the Jean Sinclair Cup at Irvine BC recently.

DUNBLANE BC

DUNBLANE BC played their annual fixture against Paton & Baldwins BC last Sunday at Dunblane. It resulted: Dunblane 57, Patons 55.

EX-PRESIDENTS

STIRLING & District Ex-Presidents played the annual match against their Aberdeen counterparts last Sunday at the Stirling green. Only ten ends were played due to rain.

Scores (Stirling skips first): H Petrie 9, I Hall 9; D Ross 9, D Leggat 9; W Connell 7, B Gordon 7; C McPherson 12, G Paterson 7; W McLaughlin 9, D Elrick 6; B Morrison 9, S Robertson 10. Totals: Stirling 55, Aberdeen 48.
