FOLLOWING their fine opening Hamilton Trophy victory the previous week, Stirling County bowlers were brought back down to earth with an almighty thump last Saturday.
In their Scottish Cities and Counties championship match at Kilsyth they simply had no answer to a Lanarkshire West team in dazzling form – and lost by a massive 49 shots.
County West trailed for the entire match and struggled to make inroads as the classy Lanarkshire men forged further ahead by the minute.
Nineteen shots down at the turn and 38 adrift after 18 ends, Stirling County sadly crossed the finishing line with six losing rinks.
Danny McCormick and company lost 15-20 to Robert Brown; Jason Williams’s men went down 16-24 to Jim McCann, while Sandy Deans’ rink lost 15-28 to Fraser Scobie.
Derek Logie’s four lost 17-20 to Harry Meikle; Bryan Stillie and company lost 14-20 to Gregor Thomson, while the four skipped by Gary Malcolmson (deputising for the side-lined David Stewart) were defeated 9-23 by the star of the Lanarkshire show, Gordon Prentice.
Totals: Stirling County West 86, Lanarkshire West 135.
County West will be aiming to get back on the winning track this Saturday when they head for Troon to take on Ayrshire North. David Stewart returns to the team along with Manny Cruz. Reserves to travel are Garry Brown and Harvey Robertson. Cars will leave Stirling Indoor BC at 11.45pm.
