FOLLOWING last week’s semi-finals at the Adrian and Airthrey Spa greens, the finalists have emerged for the Stirling County Championship finals at Carron and Carronshore on Saturday, July 14.
In the singles, Paul Monteith from the Doune Castle club will line up against Adrian’s Martin McCalley.
Paul has been a triples winner twice while Martin, a U25 internationalist, is a former junior singles winner.
In the junior singles final Ross Ingram from Bridge of Allan faces Steven Fleming from Banton and Kelvinhead BC.
Contesting the pairs final will be Aaron Hazel and Danny McCormick (Polmaise), who will line up against Kippen’s Andy Mayhew and Duncan McNaughton.
In the two-bowls final Carron’s James Mercer and Alex Sinclair face 1993 winners Robert Finnie and Stuart Carsewell from the Grahamston club. Stuart won the title last year.
The triples contest will be between John McMurdie, Tom Horn and John Carsewell from Bonnybridge BC and Adrian’s Craig Ross, Steven Lusk and Gary Hutchieson.
In the fours final Cambusbarron’s Jim Leishman, John Gairns, Henry Stark and Sandy Kerr will play Grahamston’s David Georgeson, Jim Georgeson, Wilson Hunter and Roger Stoddart.
Contesting the senior four final will be Denny’s Fred Gilchrist, Alex Laing, Michael Ledgewick and Alan Westwater, who will play Balfron’s William Arthur, Joe Skinner, Charles McWharton and William Ross.
DISTRICT NINE LEAGUE
LAST Friday’s semi-finals between Cambusbarron and Dunblane and between Doune Castle and Bannockburn were cancelled due to rain. Both matches were being played last night (Tuesday). The final goes ahead on Friday at the Balfron green at 7pm.
POLMAISE players Rita Smith and Aaron Hazel will represent District Nine in the Bowls Scotland national mixed pairs championship finals later this year.
In last week’s district final at Dunblane Rita and Aaron secured their place with victory over Borestone’s Heather Dick and Dougie Kerr.
The national finals take place at Bainfield and Carrick Knowe greens from August 17 to 19.
THE Polmaise green was last Saturday’s venue for the club’s annual match against Cambusbarron. The hosts won by 41 shots.
Scores (Polmaise skips first): G Malcolmson 16, J Liddell 11; A Hazel 17, G Brown 11; J Williams 18, W Brown 7; S Deans 27, D Ross 8. Totals: Polmaise 78, Cambusbarron 37.
WINNERS of the Pullar Trophy tournament were Bridge of Allan Bowling Club.
In the recent Central Association event Bridge of Allan bowlers amassed a winning total of eight points and 27 shots. Runners-up were Stirling BC with six plus 41.
RESULTS of matches played last week were: Cambusbarron 4, Polmaise 8; Balfron 1, Riverside 11; Callander 6, Kippen 6 (Callander won on shots); Bannockburn 6, Borestone 6 (Borestone won on shots); Doune Castle 6, Causewayhead 6 (Doune Castle won on shots); Stirling 4, Bridge of Allan 8; Dunblane v Airthrey Spa being played tonight (Wednesday).
Quarter-final matches are scheduled to be played tomorrow.
STIRLING bowers headed for Edinburgh last Saturday for their annual match with the West End club for custody of the Sparks Trophy.
Following 17 keenly contested ends it was Stirling who recaptured the trophy with an 11-shot victory.
